September 24, 2021 – New York, NY - THE ONE AND ONLY DICK GREGORY (ALBUM INSPIRED BY THE DOCUMENTARY FILM), an all-star collection of soul, R&B, and hip-hop music brought forth from the critically acclaimed new SHOWTIME documentary "The One and Only Dick Gregory,” has arrived at all platforms via Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Records and Def Jam Recordings, in association with Andre Gaines’ Cinemation Studios.
The soundtrack album premiered last week at "The One and Only Dick Gregory: The Inspired Album” Experience, a one-of-a-kind album release event organized by E.O.A Productions in collaboration with Hillman Grad, Def Jam, Cinemation Studios, and Showtime Networks.
THE ONE AND ONLY DICK GREGORY (ALBUM INSPIRED BY THE DOCUMENTARY FILM) commemorates the spirit of the legendary groundbreaking comedian and activist (1932-2017). Featured is a star-studded music line-up that includes Lupe Fiasco, Big Krit, Cory Henry, Talib Kweli, Terrace Martin, Statik Selektah, Danni Baylor, BJ The Chicago Kid, Def Jam’s own Bobby Sessions, and other amazing talents.
Premiered on SHOWTIME early this summer, "The One and Only Dick Gregory” documentary was written and directed by Gaines, and executive produced by Lena Waithe and Kevin Hart. THE ONE AND ONLY DICK GREGORY (ALBUM INSPIRED BY THE DOCUMENTARY FILM) was produced by renowned record producer and composer Kyle Townsend and Gaines.
The album aims to “bring an awakening to listeners echoing the resounding message of the late Dick Gregory,” Townsend said. “This album, and all of the artists who contributed to it, only served to amplify the spirit of Dick Gregory and his mission,” Gaines said. A&R was supervised by Tebs Maqubela and Anthony Mundle. The soundtrack was executive produced by Jonathan T. Baker, Matt Rachamkin, Chad Troutwine, and Michael Johnson, all who served as executive producers of the documentary. The film was also produced by Valerie Edwards, and executive produced by Bryan Smiley for HartBeat Productions, and Rishi Rajani for Hillman Grad Productions.
