On the eve of his first major U.S. headlining tour, West Coast rapper YG’s highly anticipated debut album, MY KRAZY LIFE debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top Hip-Hop/R&B Albums chart with first week sales of 61,026 copies. Upon its release, MY KRAZY LIFE was hailed by the New York Times as “impressive”; as “a ratchet music masterpiece” by SPIN; as “Album Of The Week – a worthy new chapter to [Compton’s] legacy” by USA Today; and “what could be the rap album of the summer” by Billboard.
MY KRAZY LIFE enters at the top of the chart on the strength of its controversial RIAA platinum million-selling single, “My N***a” featuring fellow Def Jam superstar Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan. “My N***a” is produced by YG’s longtime collaborator and Grammy®-nominated producer DJ Mustard, who will join YG on the My Krazy Life Tour. The 10-week, 40-city tour opens on March 29th at Syracuse University, and wraps up at the House of Blues in San Diego , CA on May 24th. There are limited VIP packages available for the My Krazy Life Tour, which includes a meet and greet, an autographed copy of the MY KRAZY LIFE album, official Bompton merchandise and more. Combined YouTube views of the “My N***a” videos – the original version, and the remix (featuring Lil Wayne, Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj) – have topped the 65 million mark. YG made his debut national television appearance in January on the Arsenio Hall Show, performing the track with Jeezy and YG also appeared last week on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Earlier in March, YG played a number of high-profile performances at the SXSW (South By Southwest) music conference, including the Def Jam 30th Anniversary Event; the FADER Fort (with surprises appearances by Ty Dolla $ign and Snoop Dogg); DJ Skee’s Respect The West showcase; and as co-headliner of The House of Vans A$AP Mob Showcase. YG was ultimately named by Complex Music as one of the “Top 10 Artists That Everyone at SXSW Was Talking About”.
MY KRAZY LIFE is a coming-of-age musical compilation of past life experiences that have greatly influenced YG’s music. He chose to release the album on March 18th, the day before his five year anniversary of being jailed for flocking, to represent his journey and growth as an artist since then. MY KRAZY LIFE is a collaboration between YG’s independent label known as Pu$haz Ink and Jeezy’s Atlanta-based CTE label. The relationship came to fruition after Jeezy came to Los Angeles and witnessed the movement that YG and DJ Mustard had created with their new West Coast rap sound. Since then, Jeezy has taken YG under his wing, establishing a mentorship that played a dynamic role in influencing the direction of the album.
YG’s career in music started five years ago in high school when he discovered his passion for rapping. Using just a mic and minimal recording equipment, he began his journey to success by releasing popular mixtapes and performing at neighborhood house parties in Los Angeles. Working alongside DJ Mustard, the duo quickly carved their own lane in music as the pioneers of a new West Coast rap movement made popular by Pu$haz Ink and the release of multiple mixtapes. Those mixtapes were the manifestations of YG and DJ Mustard’s unique and cutting edge sound that caught radio, record labels and fans by storm.
As he completed work on MY KRAZY LIFE, YG was not looking back. The now platinum recording artist recounts on his journey thus far, “I’m blessed, shout out to all my fans who copped the record and helped get it to platinum! We got many more to come!”
