ABC NEWS RADIO: KACY HILL FINDS PURPOSE IN MUSIC, THANKS TO KANYE WEST
From background model to rising star: G.O.O.D artist Kacy Hill finds purpose in music, thanks to Kanye West
Kanye West's newest protégé, Kacy Hill, didn't have to do much to convince the legendary rapper to sign her to his G.O.O.D. label.
Kacy tells ABC Radio that she "just kind of got really lucky," having only started to write music four years ago after her move to Los Angeles.
"Shortly after I started writing music, I went on tour with Kanye as one of his background model slash dancer people for his Yeezus tour," she says.
It was that stroke of luck that led to the Phoenix native signing a record deal with Yeezy after he heard her sing.
Kacy says Kanye truly encouraged her to forge a career in music before she signed the G.O.O.D. deal dotted line.
"I think being on that tour taught me a lot about, just, I don’t know, receiving energy from people," says Kacy.
"That sounds really like hippy dippy, but there was something really, really special about watching him command a crowd that I think kind of ignited this fire in what I was doing and I think kind of helped me find purpose in music and my path."
Now, Kacy is gearing up for the release of her debut full-length album, Like a Woman, which arrives June 30. But don't expect the disc to sound anything like her 2015 project, Bloo.
"It feels a bit more minimal as far as the production and I think that it’s just a continuation of the EP [Bloo] more than being entirely different," she explains.
"It’s just about letting the music kind of evolve and feel honest to what I am now versus what I was a year and a half ago."
