With first week sales of 52,000 copies, international female rap sensation Iggy Azalea‘s long-awaited debut album – THE NEW CLASSIC on Grand Hustle/Def Jam Recordings (released April 22nd) – arrives as her breakout smash “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX rockets into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, bulleted at #7.
Red-hot Iggy captures the top two spots on the iTunes singles chart this week, as her feature on Ariana Grande’s new track “Problem” enters at #1 and Iggy‘s “Fancy” grabs #2. “Fancy” also explodes to #1 on iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Songs chart and secures #1 on Billboard’s “Hot Rap Songs” chart for the 2nd consecutive week.

After a release-day appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, Iggy kicked off “The Hip Hop Outbreak 2014 Tour,” presented by Monster Energy, Idol Roc Entertainment and Live Nation. The 15-city North American tour of the U.S. and Canada, with most dates already sold-out in advance, wraps up on May 22nd at Neptune in Seattle. Along the way, the stage is set for Iggy‘s extended performance at the outdoor stage of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on May 15th, the night before her sold-out show across town at the Wiltern Theatre.
“The Hip Hop Outbreak 2014 Tour” is Iggy‘s third major outing in six months. She spent three weeks during October-November 2013 in her native Australia (and New Zealand) opening in six cities on “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” with Beyoncé. Iggy‘s first major North American tour followed, playing 19-cities in November-December.
Nominated as an “Artist To Watch” at the MTV VMAs, Iggy Azalea was also nominated last month for Best Video at the 10th annual mtvU Woodie Awards at the SXSW Music & Media Conference, for “Bounce” (over 14 million combined YouTube views). The 23-year old was also named a “FUSE Favorite” Artist, and was selected as a VEVO “Lift Artist.” She pulls no punches, citing broken dreams and bad deals, until (as she raps in the autobiographical “Work“), “slept cold on the floor recording/ at 4 in the morning,” she finally got aboard her spaceship into the music industry that now embraces her. With the arrival of THE NEW CLASSIC, Iggy declares, “This dream is all that I need/ cause it’s all that I ever had.”
