Rick Ross’s sixth studio album Mastermind brings much to the table. There are guest appearances by Jay Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne. There is a collaboration with Jeezy, despite the fact that Ross and the Snowman’s entourages got into a backstage ruckus at the BET Hip-Hop Awards a couple of years back. There’s a third installment of “Mafia Music,” produced by Bink! and featuring Mavado and Sizzla. But the track that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up is when Ross remakes Biggie’s “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Kills You,” in a song that directly references the drive-by shooting that almost took his life last January while he was out celebrating his 37th birthday. We caught up with Rozay to talk about how he and Diddy went about remaking one of the most powerful records in hip-hop history—and why BK has got his back. – Complex
